🚲 Route 1
Route Bades Huk nach Wismar
This section is characterized by quiet stretches of beach—ideal for a short break—and wide open fields, and it often runs alongside the water within sight.
The bike path runs eastward through Zierow. There, the path winds through farmland and small wooded areas, running parallel to the coast.
One of the biggest highlights just outside Wismar is the Bad Wendorf pier, which juts far into the bay and offers a fantastic panoramic view of the shipyard cranes in Wismar.
From Wendorf, the bike path then follows a wide promenade right along the water. Along the promenade, you’ll find numerous benches and places to rest with a view of the Baltic Sea before passing the marina and the historic shipyard scenery.
The route passes by Wismar's Old Harbor. From here, you can also see the Wassertor and the modern warehouses. If you'd like, you can treat yourself to a fresh fish sandwich from one of the fishing boats.
🚲 Route 2
Bades Huk nach Boltenhagen
Another scenic section of EuroVelo 10 runs almost entirely along the coast to the seaside resort of Boltenhagen.
The route starts at Bades Huk and heads west along the shallow bay of the Wohlenberger Wiek. This section is especially family-friendly, as the water here is very shallow and warm. The bike path often runs parallel to the coastal road but offers unobstructed views of the sea the entire way.
Beyond Wohlenberg, the landscape becomes slightly hillier. The route now continues along the top of the cliffs, where wooded sections alternate with open fields.
You can reach Weiße Wiek via the Tarnewitz district. Here, numerous boats bob on the water, and you’ll spot charming red fishermen’s cottages. What a romantic scene! The Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen, with its historic seaside architecture, has even more to offer: the pier and the spa gardens are well worth a visit and invite you to take a leisurely break while enjoying panoramic views.
🚲 Route 3
Route through the Klützer Winkel
If you’d like to experience a bit of culture in addition to the coastal scenery, head inland, passing right by Hohenkirchen on your way to Klütz. The route takes you along quiet country roads or bike paths that run alongside the roads. In Klütz, it’s worth visiting the Uwe Johnson Literary House or the Butterfly Park.
Just before you leave Klütz, Schlossstraße on the right leads directly to the most significant cultural landmark in the Klützer Winkel region: Bothmer Castle, the largest surviving Baroque complex in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Here, you can learn fascinating facts about the eventful life of Count Bothmer and the history of the castle. The castle regularly serves as the backdrop for high-profile events. Be sure to take a little time to stroll down the famous Festonallee and visit the castle grounds.
From the castle, you can either head straight back to the coast or take a detour through the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen. The route back to Bades Huk goes through Wohlenberg and Beckerwitz.
🚲 Route 4
Insel Poel – Radtour entlang des Leuchtturmwegs
A special excursion takes you to the island of Poel, just a few kilometers from Wismar. With an area of about 36 square kilometers, it is one of the largest Baltic Sea islands in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Right behind the bridge embankment, a scenic loop tour begins, taking you through Malchow, Vorwerk, and Gollwitz. From here, you can see the small island of Langenwerder, Mecklenburg’s oldest bird sanctuary. It’s worth taking a break at the beach before continuing on to Timmendorf Strand. The small harbor and the Timmendorf lighthouse, built in 1871, are popular photo spots. The route then leads along the Fauler See–Rustwerder Nature Reserve, through Wangern, and on to Kirchdorf, the island’s main town. A detour to the harbor rounds out the tour before heading back to the mainland.
